Both South Africa (SA) and New Zealand (NZ) are among the top-notch teams in the ongoing ODI World Cup and have been in great form so far. In a dominant performance in Pune, South Africa secured a significant 190-run victory over New Zealand, with Keshav Maharaj delivering an outstanding bowling display and Marco Jansen maintaining an attacking bowling approach.
Before the bowlers took centre stage, the batters set the tone for the match. Quinton de Kock notched a well-deserved century, while Rassie van der Dussen also smashed a classical century, guiding South Africa to 357.
After winning the toss, the Kiwis invited the Proteas to bat. They lost their captain early in the innings. Post which, de Kock and Dussen formed a strong partnership, adding 200 runs to the total. Both scored centuries, with Quinton reaching 114 runs before departing and Dussen scoring 133 runs before also departing. Towards the end, David Miller displayed his power-hitting abilities and scored a half-century, making 53 runs, which helped set a target of 358 runs. In the bowling department, Tim Southee took two wickets, while Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham each claimed one.
In the chase, the Kiwis lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for only 167 runs. Only Glenn Phillips managed to score a half-century, contributing 60 runs towards the end, but his efforts couldn't secure a win for his team. South Africa's bowlers played a crucial role in their victory, with Keshav Maharaj taking four wickets, Jansen taking three wickets, and Gerald Coetzee taking two wickets, ultimately restricting New Zealand to 167 runs and securing a convincing 190-run victory. With this win, South Africa are almost through to the knockouts and currently lead the table. For his outstanding batting performance, Rassie van der Dussen was named the Player of the Match.
