Quinton de Kock (174 off 140) and Heinrich Klaasen (90 off 49) helped South Africa post a mammoth total of 382/5 in 50 overs. In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 233, despite Mahmudullah’s valiant hundred (111 off 111). Gerald Coetzee was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for South Africa. The Proteas won the match by a huge margin of 149 runs. Quinton de Kock was awarded the Player of the Match for his blistering knock of 174 runs 

Early in the game, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first in the 23rd match of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24. Shoriful Islam drew first blood for Bangladesh by dismissing Reeza Hendricks for just 12 runs, and Rassie van der Dussen was soon dismissed for just one run by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram put together a 131-run partnership for the third wicket, but Shakib Al Hasan broke the good-looking partnership by dismissing Markram for 60 runs.  

De Kock continued to score runs and put on a partnership with Heinrich Klaasen, scoring his third century of the tournament - a 174-run knock that included 7 sixes and 15 fours. Klaasen also scored a 90-run knock, including 8 sixes and 2 fours. A cameo from David Miller (34 runs) helped South Africa reach a mammoth total of 382/5 in 50 overs. 

Chasing South Africa’s massive total of 382, Bangladesh were bowled out for 233, with only Mahmudullah showing some resistance. He scored a fighting hundred (111 off 111), hitting 11 fours and four sixes. No other Bangladesh batsman made a significant contribution, as they lost the match by 149 runs. Gerald Coetzee was the Pick bowler for South Africa, taking three wickets for 62 runs. Marco Jansen, Lizaad Williams and Kagiso Rabada also chipped in with two wickets each

- Mahmudullah ’s 11-run knock included four sixes, which is the joint-most by a Bangladesh batter in a World Cup innings. He shares this record with Litton Das, who hit four sixes against West Indies in 2019
