2010 Champions England kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against Afghanistan in the second match of the opening day of the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12. Jos Buttler’s English side and Mohammad Nabi-led Afghanistan face each other in Match 14 of the Super 12 round in Group 1 on Saturday, October 22 at the Perth Stadium in Perth. Notably, both have met in T20Is only twice with both instances taking place in the WCs in 2012 and 2016.
Before, entering the global event, England defeated Australia in a three-match bilateral series 2-0 in Australia. Considered one of the favorites for the competition, the English team surely has the firepower with the likes of Alex Hales, Liam Livingstone, and Ben Stokes with them to go all the way in this year’s edition. Talking about Afghanistan’s recent form, they failed to make it to the finals of the Asia Cup after defeats to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and India.
As mentioned above, England have all the tools to make it big in this year’s competition as they look to kick-start their campaign with a victory against the Afghans. The Asian side will look for some solid performances from their power-packed openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai and Najibullah Zadran in the middle. The spin duo of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman would hope to control the flow of runs against this strong-looking England batting line-up.
