Australia batter Usman Khawaja was left stranded on the fourth day of the ongoing third Test against South Africa. He was unbeaten on 195 when rain interrupted play on the second day. With no play on the third day and the first session lost on the fourth, Australia skipper Pat Cummins decided to declare the innings in order to eke out a result from the Test match.

Clearly, Khawaja must have been left disappointed with the decision as it would have been his maiden double century in Tests. However, with the team looking for crucial points in World Test Championship, he had no other option. Interestingly, this is not the first time when an innings has been declared with the batter well into his 190s in the history of Test cricket.

Rahul Dravid had once declared when Sachin was on 194

Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid were in the spotlight in the Multan Test against Pakistan back in 2004. Batting first, India were in a brilliant position with 675 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets. Sachin was not out on 194 and this is when the then skipper Dravid decided to declare the innings. Even Tendulkar was shocked when the declaration came and a lot of controversy followed that incident. However, India went on to win that game by an innings and 52 runs and the dust settled down soon.

In the same game, Virender Sehwag created history scoring 309 runs off just 375 deliveries with a massive 39 fours and six sixes to his name. On the other hand, Tendulkar had played a proper Test knock taking 348 balls for his 194* hitting 21 elegant fours.

The first ever instance of a team declaring with a batter in his 190s happened way back in 1960 West Indies' legendary batter Frank Worrell at the centre stage. He was unbeaten on 197 when the Caribbean side declared their inning robbing him a chance of notching up a well deserved double century.
