When a number of former Australian cricketers came hard at pacer Mitchell Starc with regards to his performance in the first Test against India at the Adelaide Oval which the visitors won by 31 runs, the bowler’s wife has come out in support. Alyssa Healy, who is also a star woman cricketer for Australia, produced facts in favour of her husband to assert that he is one of the best the country has produced in the game even if the criticism against him has been high.

Former Australian cricketers like Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Mark Waugh and Mitchell Johnson criticised the 28-year-old left-arm cricketer over his show in Adelaide, saying despite being the spearhead of the Aussie attack, he has not found his rhythm right, especially in the second innings. Starc had a decent game in the first Test, taking 5 wickets for 103 runs overall and showing some resistance with the bat even as Virat Kohli’s men went on to win the match by 31 runs.

Alyssa, the niece of former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy and a wicketkeeper-batsman herself, took to Twitter to fight for her husband against the detractors and she did it not with emotion but various statistical facts about Starc’s bowling career.

Starc has the best strike rate of all Australia bowlers with min 100 Test scalps

Sharing an image on Twitter that reflects on various aspects of the New South Wales’ bowler’s figures, Alyssa added a parting comment: “I’ll just leave this here…….” The image said Starc, who is just nine wickets short of 200 scalps in Tests, has the best strike rate (50.2) of all Australia bowlers who have a minimum of 100 scalps in the longer format but it has gone largely unnoticed. It also said that the only left-arm bowler from Australia with more Test wickets is Johnson whose tally is 313.

It also said that Starc is the 17th best in the list of all-time wicket-takers in Tests and at 28 years of age, he has all the time to better his figures this Australian summer. Alyssa, 28, has played three Tests, 61 ODIs and 92 T20Is for Australia with one international hundred to her credit.
