Cricketers currently taking part in the Sphageeza Cricket League in Afghanistan have refused to give in despite the recent Kabul blasts where a suicide bomber killed three people, including a policeman, and wounded five others in the vicinity of the stadium.

That said, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) remained adamant about all their players- local and overseas, being safe. Former South African batsman and coach of one of the teams in the league, Muslimyar Speenghar Tigers, Herschelle Gibbs shortly messaged,”I am alright mate.”

The only thing Gibbs’ compatriot, Gordon Parsons, was worried about was the Amo Shark’ poor form in the tournament. “Everything is going well for me. Everything is normal. It was a gas cylinder blast in one of the roadside shops apparently. There’s nothing to worry,” claimed Parsons according to StarsportsLive.

One of the Young Turks from Afghanistan, Mohammadi, further augmented the statement made by Parsons. “It was a cylinder blast. There is nothing much to worry about,” commented Mohammadi. According to reports, two of the injured were police officials and the bomber detonated after he was stopped at a security checkpoint as he walked towards the stadium where a match was under way. Details of these reports contradict the statement made by the cricketers.

One of the spokespeople from the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Farid Hotak, went on to state that the game was briefly interrupted due to the unfortunate event. “All players and cricket board officials are safe. It all happened far away from the stadium main point. We have beefed up the security, and cricketers have nothing to worry about,” quoted Hotak.

Some of the most renowned international cricketers such as Abdul Razzaq and Elton Chigumbura are currently taking part in the Sphageeza League that began a couple of days back. Former Australia cricketer Dean Jones, who was also part of the Tamil Nadu Premier League and Karnataka Premier League, is also in Kabul as one of the foreign commentators.
