The thirteenth match of the tournament witnessed defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on an in-form Kings XI Punjab side. With several match-winners in the artillery of both sides, it was anticipated to be a thrilling contest.

After being put to bat first, MI suffered early blows in the form of Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav. But skipper Rohit Sharma rose to the occasion and slammed a vital 70-run knock to steer his side to a daunting total of 191 runs. MI’s run-flow was also bolstered by explosive knocks at the end by Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya. While Pollard smashed 47 off 20 including 4 sixes, Pandya hammered 30 off just 11 deliveries.

In reply, Kings XI Punjab failed to stitch a steady partnership during their run-chase. They started off poorly by losing wickets of Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair. Skipper Rahul also was sent back as Punjab was left reeling at 60/3. Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell tried to save KXIP’s sinking ship by weaving a 41-run stand. But with the required run rate climbing at a monstrous rate, KXIP wickets started tumbling in the end.

The Punjab side suffered their third victory of the tournament as they managed to post just 143 runs on the scoreboard, handing a 48-run victory to defending champions MI. The Rohit Sharma-led side has now paved its way up to the top of the points table.

Twitter was flooded with wishes for the Mumbai side. While many heaped praise on skipper Rohit, many also lauded Pandya and Hardik for their quick-fire knocks. Several fans also acknowledged MI’s economical bowling show.
