The cricketing trends on social media revolved around a number of events. The semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup was scheduled to take place at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground. However, rain ended up playing spoilsport. the first game between India and England was called off due to rain. However, India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, managed to qualify for the final on March 8 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. In the league stage, India won all their four matches and topped Group A. On the other hand, England had to face elimination after finishing second in Group B below the West Indies.
After Team India qualified they were being showered with praises from the cricket fraternity. The likes of Siddarth Kaul and many others dropped messages from them. The second semi-final between South Africa and Australia also saw the interference of rain. Batting first the Aussies notched 134 runs in their 20 overs. Skipper Meg Lanning scored an unbeaten 49 with the help of four boundaries and one six. But then the heavens opened up.
The Proteas were set with a revised target of 98 in 13 overs. But in the end, Dane van Niekerk and Co ended up losing the match by five runs (DLS Method). Laura Wolvaardt, who scored a fifty against Pakistan, turned up with a 27-ball 41, but her efforts went in vain. Tom Moody congratulated Australia for making the T20 World Cup Finals.
