The Match 19 of IPL 2020 saw two prolific batsmen and skippers– Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer– lock horns with each other at Dubai International Stadium. After winning the toss, Kohli put DC to bat first and Shikhar Dhawan-Prithvi Shaw rolled out a flurry of boundaries in the Powerplay. The duo put up a steady opening stand of 68 to bolster DC’s run-flow.
After the departure of both the openers, skipper Iyer was also shown the exit door cheaply. In the end, Rishabh Pant and Marcus Stoinis slammed some vital runs to guide DC to a daunting total. While Pant scored 37 off 25, Stoinis smoked 53 off just 26 deliveries.
Coming on to RCB’s run-chase, the Virat Kohli-led side was struck with three major blows in the Powerplay itself. Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers were shown the exit door by the end of first six overs. Skipper Kohli tried saving the game for RCB by stitching 43 off 39.
However, with wickets tumbling at other end and the asking run-rate soaring with every over, RCB was wrapped up at a meagre 137. No other batsman apart from Kohli was able to leave an impact with the willow. In the end, it was DC who pocked the match and grabbed two vital points to go up to the top of the points table.
The encounter also dished out two hilarious moments. In the first innings, Kohli, while fielding, accidentally almost applied saliva on the ball. While fielding at short cover, the RCB skipper pulled off an impressive fielding effort and was almost going to put on saliva on the ball. However, he immediately realized his mistake and smiled before passing the ball to his teammate.
The second hilarious incident was Ravichandran Ashwin’s ‘Mankad’ scare when Aaron Finch was at the non-striker’s end. Ashwin, in the third over of the second innings, didn’t attempt the Mankading but gave Finch a stare and a warning to return to his crease.
