Defending champions Mumbai Indians, continuing their impressive winning run, thumped Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs at Abu Dhabi to climb up the points table. The Rohit Sharma-led side has now won four matches and is favourite to clinch the trophy this year too.
MI, the most successful franchise of the IPL with four titles under its belt, will be eyeing a fifth trophy this season. It was an impressive all-rounder effort of MI against RR as the defending champions stamped their authority over the Steve Smith-led side.
Batting first, MI amassed a dominant 193-run total on the scoreboard. Suryakumar Yadav emerged as their talisman as he smashed an unbeaten 47-ball 79. He was also assisted by Hardik Pandya’s 30* off just 19 deliveries. One incident which hogged the headlines during the first innings was Jofra Archer’s beamer against Pandya. The Barbadian-born pacer rattled Pandya with a lethal beamer which could’ve been fatal.
Talking about RR’s run-chase, the Rajasthan failed to build a steady partnership at the start. Their three wickets fell in the first three overs itself. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Steve Smith and Sanju Samson were dismissed cheaply as RR’s run-chase was dented by early blows.
Jos Buttler, stitching a 44-ball 70, tried saving the sinking ship but the entire RR side eventually succumbed to MI’s bowling brilliance. While Jasprit Bumrah scalped four, Trent Boult and James Pattinson picked two wickets each. Rohit Sharma and Co scripted a dominant win at Abu Dhabi and Twitter was flooded with congratulatory wishes for the Mumbai Paltan.
Condolences also poured in for Afghanistan opener Najeeb Tarakai, who passed away after meeting with a road accident. The 29-year-old was in critical condition after meeting with an accident on Friday.

12. Sanjay Manjrekar analyses Sanju Samson’s FC record
No matter what the format, I make it a point to look at a player's FC record to get a general idea about the player. Something about Samson that's always bothered me..his FC average is 37. In comparison, Mayank is 57 & Gill in his 21 matches a staggering 73.
