MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, failing to pull off a run-chase yet again, succumbed to Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling unit at Abu Dhabi in Match 21 of IPL 2020. CSK’s topsy-turvy IPL 2020 campaign continued as they lost the encounter by 10 runs.

KKR, after electing to bat first, failed to amass a mammoth total on the board. Bowing down to CSK’s impressive bowling display, no other KKR batsman apart from Rahul Tripathi managed to stitch a prolonged knock in the middle. Tripathi emerged as Kolkata’s lone warrior, stitching a 51-ball 81 and guiding his side to a total of 167 runs.

CSK bowling and fielding were at their best at Abu Dhabi. They kept scalping KKR wickets at regular intervals to put them under pressure. Dwayne Bravo plucked three wickets and emerged as Chennai’s most successful bowler.

Talking about CSK’s run-chase, they did suffer an early blow in the form of Faf du Plessis. The former South Africa skipper was sent back to the dugout on 17. But after suffering an early setback, the Shane Watson-Ambati Rayudu steadied CSK’s ship and played a vital role to bolster their run-flow.

However, the game turned around completely after the duo’s departure. CSK lost wickets in quick succession and the Yellow Army eventually managed to gather just 157 runs on the board, handing a 10-run triumph to Karthik’s men.

Twitter congratulated KKR for their incredible performance and bowling display. Fans also lauded fielding efforts of Chennai’s two stalwarts– Ravindra Jadeja and skipper MS Dhoni. While Jadeja took a spectacular catch near the rope, Dhoni –behind the stumps– pulled off a superb catch with just one wicketkeeping glove.
