The cricketing trends on social media revolved around a number of events. The 2021 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is currently taking place. On Friday, January 15, Puducherry played against Assam in a Group E match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Sheldon Jackson showed his class as he smashed an unbeaten 106 off 50 balls with seven fours and eight sixes. His knock helped Puducherry chase down the mammoth score of 227 runs in their 20 overs. He got the apt support from Paras Dogra, who scored a half-century.
The day wasn’t a happy one Hardik and Krunal Pandya as their father passed away due to cardiac arrest. After knowing about the news, Krunal left the bio-secure bubble in the SMAT20. He was playing for Baroda, who won their first three matches and were placed atop the points table. In their first match, he scored in the 70s and also picked up a couple of crucial wickets.
In the meantime, cricketers from all over the country sent their condolences for the Pandya brothers. Tabraiz Shamsi was impressed to see the security for the South African in Pakistan. The Proteas are set for a full-fledged series against Pakistan after a gap of 14 years.
Ian Botham congratulated Joe Root for the latter’s fourth double century in Test cricket. Sanjay Manjrekar was unhappy after Rohit Sharma threw his wicket away in the Brisbane Test after getting his eyes in.
