The second match of IPL 2020 was a topsy-turvy ride. While the game shifted towards Kings XI Punjab at one point, it eventually went in favour of Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals. After amassing a 157-run total on the board, Capitals curbed KXIP’s run-flow by scalping wickets at regular intervals. However, it was Mayank Agarwal’s match-defining 89-run knock which added a twist in the tale.
The match ultimately progressed into a Super Over, with both DC and KXIP notching up 157 runs each on the board. It was Kagiso Rabada’s bowling brilliance with made the difference in the Super Over. He restricted KXIP to 3 runs and opened the gates of an easy triumph for the Delhi franchise.
Twitter erupted with a plethora of tweets regarding the match. While some lauded Stoinis and Agarwal for their respective knocks, some heaped praise on the nail-biting thrill which the IPL offers. After an exciting season-opener between MI and CSK, IPL continued the trend of dishing out astounding encounters for fans. Fans, meanwhile, also criticized the short-run call made by the umpire in the 19th over. Despite KXIP’s Chris Jordan making it to the crease, it was declared a short run.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin also hogged the limelight after injuring himself in the second innings. The sixth over of the innings, bowled by Ashwin, saw Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran getting out to leaving the team reeling at 34/3. However, But the last ball of the over witnessed Ashwin injuring himself after diving to stop a single. He dived to stop the ball but dislocated his shoulder instead and raising questions over his future IPL 2020 expeditions.
Ahead of their opening fixture, Rajasthan Royals have also suffered a setback. In-form Jos Buttler, after meeting his family out of the bio-secure bubble, is set to miss Royals’ opening game against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday.
