England, after levelling the series 1-1 by clinching the second Test at Manchester, received praise on social media. However, it was Ben Stokes who hogged the attention with his stellar performance in the Test. The New Zealand-born all-rounder made the world bow down by amassing 254 runs and scalping three wickets at Old Trafford. The left-hander’s contribution was crucial in England’s emphatic 113-run triumph over the visitors.
Stokes gathered a resilient 176-run knock and followed it up by smashing a quick-fire 78 in the second innings, gaining accolades all over social media. Many players like Michael Vaughan, Irfan Pathan and Subramanium Badrinath heaped praise on the prolific all-rounder.
Irfan even said that Indian cricket team can become unbeatable if they have a match-winning all-rounder like Ben Stokes in their arsenal. Stokes’ stellar performance also helped him climb the top of the ICC Test all-rounder rankings.
Cricket Australia (CA), meanwhile, reminisced the start of 2005 Ashes. 15 years ago on July 21 marked the start of Ashes 2005, which eventually emerged as one of the best sporting extravaganzas in the red-ball cricket. The then Australia skipper Ricky Ponting also recalled the Test series as said it was the best one he has ever played in.
Ishant Sharma also recalled his thrilling seven-wicket haul at Lord’s. It was the very same day in 2014 when Ishant delivered his career-best performance and wreaked havoc on England by picking up seven wickets. India beat England by 95 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
