The cricketing trends on social media revolved around a number of events. The General Election results in India were declared today and Gautam Gambhir, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the East Delhi constituency comfortably won. After the win which takes him to the Indian Parliament, he was showered with praises.
Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, Gambhir’s former teammate, congratulated the cricketer-turned-politician on the thumping victory ‘off the field’. BJP’s Narendra Modi got another massive mandate of becoming India’s Prime Minister. The 68-year-old was congratulated by many including Pragyan Ojha. In the meantime, the Mashrafe Mortaza-led Bangladesh team is geared up to play the World Cup in England and Wales.
Shakib Al Hasan shared a picture where he is with wife Umme Ahmed Shishir, daughter Alaina, and teammates- Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Abu Jayed Rahi and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Rahim also shared a picture of him standing in front of the World Cup bus. The draft from the upcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) took place yesterday and a number of players were picked.
The Barbados Tridents bought the services of Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who played for the St Lucia Stars in the previous season. Jason Holder, also the Windies captain, expressed his happiness after getting a chance to represent the Tridents. He is also the marquee player for the franchise.
Jason Roy posted a picture with the new England jersey for the World Cup. Afghanistan’s Hashmatullah Shahidi shared a photo with his teammates. His team is scheduled to lock horns with Pakistan in their first warm-up match against Pakistan at the County Ground in Bristol.
