With cricket being an age-old game, fans have witnessed numerous bizarre dismissals over the years. However, not many can come close to the way Ayabulela Gqamane got out in the ongoing CSA Provincial T20 Cup 2021/22. The all-rounder, who’s representing Titans in the ongoing tournament, sent his stumps to a walk while going for a big shot. Apparently, he got out hit wicket.

Now, a hit wicket is not a very common form of dismissal. Whenever batters get out via this mode, they generally hit the stumps with their back foot or back of the bat. On this occasion, however, Ayabulela Gqamane hit his off-stump with the face of his bat. The bizarre incident took place during the 19th over of Titans’ innings and Migael Pretorius had the ball in hand.

The most bizarre dismissal ever?

In order to get underneath the full-length deliveries, Ayabulela Gqamane was standing deep in the crease, very close to the stump. Seeing a delivery way outside the off-stump, Gqamane went down on one knee to hit the ball over the cover region. While he failed to make any contact with the ball, the right-handed batter instead smashed his own stumps.

Notably, the delivery was adjudged a wide but it proved good enough to dismiss the South African batter. Notably, the batter even surprised himself with his act as he went back with a smile. In total, Gqamane slammed 12 off seven balls with included a couple of boundaries. Besides him, skipper Dean Elgar (41) and Sibonelo Makhanya (26) made handy contributions as Titans posted 143/8 while batting first in Bloemfontein.

Chasing the tricky total, the Knights got off to a dismal start with spinner Aaron Phangiso dismissing Matthew Kleinveldt in the first over. However, Jacques Snyman joined forces with Rilee Rossouw, and the duo bough their side’s innings back on the track. The latter was brilliant in particular as he scored 73 off just 51 deliveries.

Farhaan Behardien and Wandile Makwetu also made some late contributions as the Knights crossed the line in 19.1 overs, winning the contest by six wickets. With this win, the Knights also collected four points while the Titans are yet to open their account.
