Chennai Super Kings had a splendid run in the first leg of the IPL. The team continued their rich vein of form in the UAE leg as well by securing three consecutive wins so far. The former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has, however, opened up on MS Dhoni’s current form and has stated that the team is playing with 10 players and a specialist captain.

CSK have exuded their dominance in the second half of the tournament but their skipper hasn’t been able to fetch in a lot of runs. In 10 matches so far in IPL 2021, Dhoni has chipped in 52 runs and his average and strike rate have also been a concern. Chopra pointed Dhoni’s importance in the side and asserted that he is currently only playing as a keeper and a captain.

“He’s currently only playing like a captain and wicketkeeper because either he bats so down the order or not at all. Sometimes when he gets to bat, he isn’t able to do much. So the truth is that CSK is playing with 10 players and he’s there as a captain. But this is another interesting bit about Dhoni – this time can only be run by him,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

CSK’s turnaround is only because of MS Dhoni’s captaincy: Aakash Chopra

CSK had a dismaying outing in the IPL 2020. First time in the history of the tournament, the team did not qualify for the play-offs. However, they made an impressive comeback and displayed to the world why they are termed as one of the best teams in the league.

In this edition of the IPL, the team is comfortably placed at the top of the points table with 16 points to their account. Chopra highlighted CSK’s turnaround and said that if it was not for Dhoni’s captaincy, the team wouldn’t have been able to bounce back this stronger.

“CSK’s turnaround, the comeback, and the transformation to the “Champion Super Kings” is only because of MS Dhoni’s captaincy. If he had not been there, this environment would not have been created. So when the big auction arrives, maybe you want MS Dhoni on your side to make and run his team before moving forward to the future,” he added.
