Legendary skipper MS Dhoni stepped down as the Chennai Super Kings captain just two days before the commencement of IPL 2022 and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as his successor. In the 12 seasons that he led the Yellow Army, Dhoni has taken the franchise to unattained heights with four IPL titles and two (now-defunct) CLT20 titles in 2010 and 2014 respectively.

Jadeja might be an inexperienced captain as of now but, former Australian and CSK opener Matthew Hayden reckons that the Gujarat cricketer has got the potential to lead Chennai to a title triumph this time. Giving further clarification on the same, the veteran power-hitter said that the defending champions have a lot of experience on their side and they can be expected to make a remarkable comeback after a six-wicket loss to KKR in the first game.

CSK will not be disheartened by the loss in their opening game: Matthew Hayden

“CSK will not be disheartened with the loss in their opening game against KKR. There were plenty of positives for the Ravindra Jadeja-led side. Their top-order saw a rare batting collapse in the first game but there’s a lot of experience in the side and I am sure they’ll come back stronger in the next game,” said Hayden while speaking on the Star Sports show Cricket Live ahead of LSG vs CSK game.

“They missed Moeen Ali in the tournament opener and he will be available for selection in the next match. CSK have it in them to it pull off and that makes them a dangerous side,” he added.

After a demoralizing defeat in the curtain-raiser of this season, CSK would be looking forward to pulling up their socks in their encounter (currently underway) against the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2022. Even LSG have come into this contest having lost to Gujarat Titans in their season opener by five wickets. It would be interesting to see which of these two teams will end up registering their first two points to their tally.
