The first semi-final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 women’s cricket competition is set to take place between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham and this is expected to be a humdinger of a contest. England topped the points table in Group B with three wins in as many games and they will be riding high on confidence. Although the numbers are in favour of the host nation, England will expect a tough challenge against India.

In the group fixtures, Sri Lanka and New Zealand looked no match to the England Women’s side while South Africa provided a tough contest. Alice Capsey has been among the runs in all the three games for England and she will be the one to watch out for in the semi-final going by her recent form.

India’s campaign in the Commonwealth Games 2022 started off with a hiccup in the first game against Australia. However, they came up with fine displays in the the second and third games of the group stages against Pakistan and Barbados respectively. With two wins in three games and at four points, India finished second in the points table of Group A, and they will be looking to seal a spot in the gold medal match with a victory over England.

Pitch Conditions

The Edgbaston pitch has been tough to score runs and seamers have enjoyed bowling in the conditions especially with the swing around. It will be a tough ground to chase totals above 150 and hence, wickets in hand will be a key factor.
