Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket schedule 2022

The 2022 Commonwealth games are set to feature a Women’s T20I competition for the first time in its 82-year-long glorious history. It will be only the second time that cricket will be a part of the multi-sport event since the 1998 edition, which saw the Men’s team compete in the ODI format, where South Africa won the Gold after defeating Australia in the final.

The historic event will see eight teams fight it out for the prestigious medals (Gold, Silver, and Bronze). The tournament will be played under T20I rules and guidelines and feature eight teams who have qualified for the sporting event in Birmingham this year. England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Australia, Pakistan, and India are the seven participating nations, along with Barbados, who will participate as a separate nation instead of a combined team from the West Indies which is the norm in these global events.

The teams will be divided into two groups of four, and the top two teams from each group will progress further in the tournament. Australia and England are the outright favorites heading into the competition as the two nations contested the World Cup final earlier this year, which was won by the team from down under, a record seventh title.

Australia are also the reigning T20 World Champions, and they will be eyeing a place in the history books by winning this maiden tournament. But they will have to be wary of teams like New Zealand, South Africa, and India, who have been impressive in the format of late and can throw a spanner in their plans.
