Dale Steyn is one of the biggest icons in South African cricket. Undoubtedly, he is one of the best fast bowlers the country has ever produced. He has got one of the cleanest actions and has got quite a few tricks up his sleeve. He was definitely on course to emerge as the best ever South African fast bowler until two years back. But, multiple injuries forced him to keep away from the game bringing an abrupt pause to his career.

However, this fighter, after battling all the odds made a come back in the series against India in January 2018. But, destiny had other plans. Steyn was injured right in the First Test of the series and had to be ruled out all this while. With so many injuries, many believed that it would be tough for Steyn to make it back into the national team again.

But, Steyn has worked really hard on his fitness and bowling in the process of recovery. The premier fast bowler has proved his fitness coming back from the injury and also played county cricket. Also, he was highly impressive with the ball in the few games that he played. Hence, he was included in the Test squad for the Sri Lanka series. He is on the verge of making yet another comeback.

With only four pacers in the team, Steyn is more than likely to play the series-opener in Galle. This Test match begins on July 12. He has set is goals clear for the further ahead and is eyeing more accolades. The 34-year-old only requires two more Test wickets to break the record of Shaun Pollock as South Africa’s highest wicket-taker in Tests.

Also, Steyn aspires to play 100 Tests and pick 500 wickets. “A hundred Test matches would be amazing and 500 wickets would be incredible,” Steyn was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. Steyn has played 86 Tests for South Africa thus far.
