Dale Steyn takes to Instagram to hint his international comeback

Steyn is just five wickets away from breaking Shaun Pollock's record as South Africa's leading wicket-taker in the longest format of the game.

In what is excellent news for Cricket South Africa and its fans, their lethal fast bowler Dale Steyn has hinted a return to international cricket soon. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the premier pacer posted a photo of himself and captioned it ‘not long now’ with the emoji of bat and ball. Steyn last played a game nearly 9 months ago, before suffering an injury during South Africa’s tour of Australia in November last year. He had undergone a shoulder injury shortly after.

To be precise, he had broken a bone in his right shoulder in November during the second day of the Perth Test which ruled him out of the game for at least six months. This meant that the quick missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) in April-May 2017 amidst rumours that he was fit to play in the tournament. During the IPL Steyn had posted on Twitter a picture of him sitting in front of the television and watching a game which the caption “Must say, i’d rather be sweaty on the bench than this” This was the first of the 10 seasons of IPL that Dale didn’t play.

He was also supposed to have played two four-day matches for South Africa’s ‘A’ side as a part of the Test series preparations against England after the ICC Champions Trophy but on May 16 he tweeted that he wouldn’t be able to play that too wished the team good luck. “I’ll definitely be watching and backing you guys all the way,” he tweeted.

With a return of Steyn to international cricket, South Africa is going to get a huge boost. Also, Steyn is just five wickets away from breaking Shaun Pollock’s record as South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in the longest format of the game.
