Dane Paterson, who is currently, playing for South Africa ‘A’ in their ongoing quadrangular series, involving India ‘A’, Australia ‘A’ and India ‘B’, has had an impressive outing. In two matches, the right-arm fast bowler has notched seven wickets at an incredible economy of 2.97. In his team’s last encounter against India ‘A’, Paterson picked up a five-wicket haul.

The 29-year-old finished with figures of 9.3-2-19-5 and helped South Africa ‘A’ bowl Shreyas Iyer’s men for 157 runs. Recently, Cricket South Africa stated that the series will be taken into consideration for national team selections and the Cape Province-born fast-bowler eagerly wants to make the opportunity count with some impressive performances.

My cricketing career still goes on

“This tour is very important, There are a few spots available. We have to do well. Obviously, it is at the back of my mind. It is not purely my focus. There are more things to focus on, like this tour. If I put my performances here, that will speak volumes,” Paterson was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Paterson made his international debut in a T20I against Sri Lanka last year in January. Currently, he has an experience of three ODIs and seven T20Is. The World Cup in England and Wales is scheduled to take place from May next year and the pace bowler expressed his desire to take part in the mega event. Nevertheless, he doesn’t want to pressurise himself with the ambition to play the tournament.

“World Cup is the big goal, When I was 26 years old, that was my long-term goal. Next year I’ll be 30. It has been something I have been working towards. If I get it (a chance to play in the world cup), good. If I don’t, life goes on, my cricketing career still goes on,” he added.
