Former Black Caps captain Daniel Vettori has featured in the online dating ad for the ‘Soulmates’ single service on the main page of The Guardian, one of the biggest news websites in the UK. The ad ran at the bottom of the Guardian.co.uk website on Wednesday morning. It featured a photo of Vettori in its “search for men” panel, alongside what is presumably a profile picture from the site.
The picture of Vettori originated in a Stuff article from 2012. Vettori, who is married and has three childrens, was unaware of the ad before being contacted and later confirmed he did not have a profile with ‘Soulmates.’ He told ‘Fairfax’ that he does not have an online dating profile and that he had never seen the advertisement before. The Guardian is yet to make an official comment.
Presumably, an anonymous person on the site has used the photo either for fun or in an attempt to hide his own identity. Vettori’s agent, Greg Dyer, has asked The Guardian to remove the picture and take down the profile.
The banner was first noticed by Twitter user John Hudson. He commented with the picture and tagged New Zealand Cricket in his tweet.
“Can someone tell Vettori that the Guardian is using a photo of him to advertise its singles website? @BLACKCAPS”

Well, Vettori must thank John Hudson for pointing out the incident to everyone.
The Kiwi legend, who is the youngest player to have represented New Zealand in Test cricket, retired last year and is currently the Head Coach of IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore and BBL franchise Brisbane Heats.
