Royal Challengers Bangalore ended up losing the final last time around. They were one of the best batting sides in the league but they struggled in the bowling department. The pacer Mitchell Starc from down under decided to opt out of the Indian Premier League this year and hence Daniel Vettori’s RCB had to splash the cash on Tymal Mills. He grabbed an INR 12 crores deal with the RCB.

The Englishman became the most expensive bowler in the history of the IPL. The fast bowler from England had an excellent Big Bash League for Brisbane Heat, which is also looked after by Vettori. Daniel Vettori was talking to Times of India when he revealed the reason behind them going all out for Mills. He said that Mills is equipped with skills that go well with their home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He is also skilled in bowling Yorkers and slow deliveries. The availability of the player also played a huge role in the signing. And the fact that Mitchel Starc withdrew from the IPL had an impact as well.

Vettori said, “We splurged on Tymal because he was a part of our auction strategy. He is available through the season and is in good form having done well in the Big Bash League. He comes with skills which are well-suited for the size and conditions at our home ground – the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. We had Rs 17 crore in our kitty so we certainly had our limits. That said, when you target players it is important to be flexible with your purse because you can’t control the course of the auction.”

Tymal already has 67 wickets in 58 games in the shortest format. The economy rate is also considerable, he gives away 7.5 runs per spell. Royal Challengers Bangalore will begin their campaign against the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match will be played in Hyderabad on April 5.
