Virat Kohli is one of the modern day legends of the game. He is shouldering almost the entire burden of the Indian cricket team and has been terrific in the last two years. His consistency is impeccable and is scoring runs all across the globe. Hence, as the result, he became the No 1 batsman in the ICC Test Rankings which were announced recently.

The Indian skipper surpassed former Aussie skipper Steve Smith to grab the top position and currently has a rating of 934 points. These updated rankings were announced after the 29-year-old scored 200 runs in two innings in the First Test against England. England was the only place where this legend was due to score some big runs and he has now ticked off that box as well.

However, despite all these efforts from the Indian skipper, the team ended up losing the First Test against England. They lost this game by a mere 31 runs and are down in the series 0-1 at the moment. This Test match was a true test of Virat’s temperament as he was challenged by the swinging conditions, where he faltered earlier.

But, rewarding his performances, he was awarded 31 points which were added to his tally which helped him get to the No 1 position. At the same time, Virat also ended Steve Smith’s 32-month reign as the top-ranked Test batsman. Smith was at the top position since December 2015 but is not playing international cricket at the moment due to his ban.

Kohli became the seventh Indian batsman, and first since Sachin Tendulkar (in 2011) to be ranked the No 1 Test batsman. Further, with 934 points, Virat is also the highest ranked batsman ever and is 14th overall on the all-time tally of points. Sir Donald Bradman (961) and Steve Smith (947) are the top two batsmen on the list with most points ever in the rankings.

Virat Kohli was flooded with congratulatory messages after this achievement. English woman cricketer Danielle Wyatt also congratulated Virat and crowned him for the achievement on Instagram.
