The Nepal cricket team recently earned ODI status and their rise in the format has been quite an inspiring journey. Nepal will play their first ODI match on Wednesday as the two-match ODI series against the Netherlands starts on August 1. It is probably the most anticipated one-day debut in a really long time. It’s taken a bit longer for Nepal than it should have as the team were one of the leading Associates in Asia.

Eight years ago Nepal were playing in ICC World Cricket League Division Five and now they are among the top 16 nations in the world, with ODI status guaranteed for the next four years. It is only the beginning and they have a long way to go. A fan requested Danielle Wyatt, who is a part of the England Women’s cricket team, to post something about the Nepal vs Netherlands match and she obliged.

Wyatt tweeted: “Good luck! Nepal what a place.”

The first match will be played at the VRA cricket ground in Amstelveen. Paras Khadka, Nepal’s captain is eager to take his boys on the field in what will be their first ever ODI match. The team will be looking to start their journey on a winning note and set the ball rolling. Thousands of fans in Nepal will be backing their team to come out well against Netherland.

Here’s Wyatt’s tweet on Nepal’s cricket team:

The young team certainly looks promising and have the talent to do well at the highest level. Sandeep Lamichhane, who became the first player from Nepal to bag an IPL contract, will be hoping to make a mark in the One-Day International cricket. Even though the fixture looks a little sparse, Nepal will be hoping to make a grand entry to the highest stage.
