Australian coach Darren Lehmann had yesterday expressed that the Melbourne Stars team was spending a bit too much on former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen and weren’t able to make it to the final of the tournament despite that. The Stars lost out to Perth Scorchers in the semi-final of the Big Bash League (BBL) season 6 to bow out of the tournament which marked the last BBL game of skipper David Hussey.

Hussey wasn’t pleased with what Boof said about his former teammate and believed for his contribution Pietersen deserves a lot more respect than what he has contributed to the Stars and the league on the whole. “I am pretty disappointed with Darren,” Hussey said on SEN’s The Run Home on Wednesday afternoon.

“For someone I revere who was one of my idols growing up, that’s pretty disrespectful. He’s the Australian head coach and he doesn’t know what goes on at the Melbourne Stars or what KP brings to the table on and off the field.” He added.

After the Stars vs Scorchers game Lehmann had tweeted- “@KP24 @tensporttv @BBL time for stars to move KP on ,spent to much money on him and didn’t win. Don’t want to listen to his excuses anymore.”

If statistics are to be looked at Pietersen was the leading run-scorer for the Stars’ in the season having scored 268 runs at an average of 38.28. In his overall BBL career where he has been loyal to the team, the star batsman has featured in 48 matches and managed 855 runs.

“I find it highly disrespectful that people (would say that),” Hussey continued. “KP is the BBL’s sixth leading run-scorer this year and the Stars’ best BBL player of the last couple of years. What he does on and off the field for the players in the squad is phenomenal. He is fast tracking and upskilling our young players in order for them to achieve their dreams.”

Hussey had after yesterday’s game also announced his decision to retire from the BBL as his team failed to make their way into the final. “I’m done, I spoke to the boys quietly last night. I don’t want to make too much of a deal of it. It’s a sad time and I’m still pretty emotional but I’m stopping young player coming through the ranks so it’s time to move on. But I’m very thankful for what I’ve achieved in the game.” The senior among Hussey brothers said.
