Following their impressive ODI series win over Pakistan, Australia will be resting their opening batsmen David Warner and Usman Khawaja for the upcoming edition of the Chappell-Hadlee Series. This means that the Australian selectors will be weighing in other options for the same with the likes of Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch roped back into the side.

Trevor Hohns, the Australian selector has also gone on to state that Warner had a massive summer and that it was critical to keep someone like him fit for the upcoming season. He also went on to add that the break had given Aaron Finch to get back up on the horse and prove himself in the grand scheme of things as well.

“David has had a very big summer and will benefit from a break in cricket, both mentally and physically,” Travis Hohns, interim national selector, said on Monday (January 23). “He will travel to Dubai in the second group of departures to coincide with those players arriving from the one-day series in New Zealand.

“This gives Aaron an opportunity to return to the side. His form in the Big Bash League has been very good and he has earned his recall.”

Hohns went on to add that Khawaja and Warner would be the first set of players to make their way out to Dubai for the spring training ahead of the Indian tour. Billy Stanlake keeps his place in the side while Marcus Stoinis is the new addition for the series as well.

Hohns further added: “With Usman heading to Dubai in the first group of players this provides Shaun with a chance to get back into international cricket following his injury earlier in the summer.”

Squad: Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb, James Faulkner, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa
