David Warner was looking set to break Brian Lara’s record of highest Test score on Saturday. Since Lara played his monumental knock of 400 against England in 2004, not many have close to breaking it. However, Warner was looking well on his way to eclipsing that record during his stunning knock of unbeaten 335 against Pakistan in Adelaide.

The Australia opener scored his maiden triple century in Tests and was having no trouble in batting whatsoever despite spending hours at the crease. But before Warner could even get close to Lara’s record, Australia captain Tim Paine declared the innings with the scoreboard reading an ominous 589 for 3.

With that declaration, the wait to see Lara’s record getting broken was extended by a few more days. Only time will tell who can break the former West Indies captain’s record. But for the time being, David Warner has said that if there is one player who can do it, then he is none other than India’s Rohit Sharma. Speaking at the end of the day’s play, Warner backed Rohit to go all the way and break Lara’s record.

“If I have to name one player, I reckon it could be Rohit Sharma definitely,” said Warner as he snubbed the likes of Steve Smith and Virat Kohli.

Australia, meanwhile, are well on course of winning the ongoing Test too. After winning the series-opener by an innings and five runs, the hosts are in the driver’s seat in the second Test too. At the end of the second day, they had Pakistan reeling at 96 for 6. Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets.

Rohit Sharma’s penchant for big knocks:

While Warner’s pick must have surprised many, one cannot deny the fact that Rohit Sharma knows a thing or two about playing big knocks. He is currently the holder of the highest score in ODIs for his epic 264-run knock against Sri Lanka. Rohit has also scored as many as three double centuries in the 50-over format.

The right-handed batsman recently started opening in Tests and has already scored a double century. He also has a triple century to his name in Ranji Trophy.
