Australia’s aggressive opening batsman David Warner has scaled the top of the ICC World Rankings for the first time in his career after a few amazing performances with the bat in the recently-concluded ODI series against Pakistan. This performance was topped off by a massive 179 in the final ODI at Adelaide wherein the Aussies completed an impressive 57-run win.

Apart from being the beneficiary of being named in several legend’s playing XI’s, Warner also came up trumps in the Allan Border Medal wherein he was named as Australia’s player of the year. Perhaps, it is an impressive point towards the fact that Warner is one of those players who can certainly play the role of opener across all formats, to say the least.

“It is a huge year for one-day cricket with the ICC Champions Trophy later this year and I am hoping I can take my good form into that tournament and help Australia lift the trophy for the third time,” said Warner, who is now 19 points ahead of second-placed de Villiers in the ODI rankings list with a tally of 880 points.

While he boasted of the world ranking, Warner went ahead and reiterated that he certainly had a job to do, the job that has not gotten any easier since his ascent to the top of the rankings. He will be one of those batsmen who is expected to make an impact in the upcoming series against India.

“It is always a great honor and very nice to receive these accolades but from my perspective, my job is to put our team into winning positions and I have been fortunate that I have been able to do that lately,” he said.
