David Warner has been the anchor for the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the most part of the current IPL campaign. He once again smashed an important half-century as the Sunrisers beat KXIP by 5 wickets.

Speaking to the media following the inspiring win, the SRH skipper complimented the bowlers for their wonderful performances in decent conditions at Hyderabad. Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with a magical spell of 4-1-9-2.

“I’ve said before in the past that, if our bowlers bowl well, it makes my job a lot easier,” Warner said, hardly concealing his sheer delight. “The patterns we’ve shown is, Fizz (Mustafizur) bowls the last over of the powerplay to try and give no momentum to another team to go into that middle period. We’ve bowled well, we’ve allowed the ball to swing. The conditions have been good to swing the ball. That’s probably our key up front early.

“Losing Ashish Nehra was a big thing for us, but credit to Sran coming in and playing the way he did. He’s obviously been a good bowler for India in the short career so far. Allowing Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) to swing the ball early, take early wickets, (then) Fizz (Mustafizur) comes in does his job. Moises (Henriques) bowls in the middle period, does exactly what he has to do – (bowls) off-cutters and if he needs to try and swing the ball he can swing the ball, hit the wicket,” the Sunrisers captain explained.

“We saw that here today that you don’t want to be too predictable with the change of pace because the ball is sitting up, it’s a nice wicket. Our bowlers adapted very well. I couldn’t have asked for a better game from the bowlers. They did a fantastic job,” Warner gushed.

“The pleasing thing to me was Bhuvi bowled very well last game, Fizzy bowled well this game. Now hopefully, Sran bowls even better than what he is bowling now. He’s bowling fantastic up front. They’re gelling really well together. I didn’t bowl Bipul (Sharma) tonight; I didn’t require to. We’ve got him up our sleeves. Hooda bowled a good first over.”

“It always sets the tone when you get a couple of dot balls on any batsman. And then you try and force the error. We knew if we could bank up a couple of dot balls because there was going to be a big shot or a silly run,” Warner said.

Warner also hailed the contribution of Shikhar Dhawan. The latter has been in terrible form in the past few weeks before finding his feet against the Gujarat Lions.

“Credit to Shikhar (Dhawan). I actually asked him to move in a little bit (for) that ball because you could see the pressure building up. And the release for them was going to be a single because there was a risk to take to hit a big shot on a guy that’s bowling very well,” Warner revealed.

“It was a game-changer. It obviously is disappointing that we’ve done it three out of the five knocks where we’ve both got out in a single over. Doesn’t help any team,” Miller said grimly.

“Look for me it’s about taking each game, one step at a time,” said Warner. “This game is done and dusted, now we’ve to start fresh again for next game. It starts with the toss and then work out from there what you have to do. Then assess the conditions, it’s a very good wicket out here. The outfield is lush so the ball doesn’t skip on. It stays newer for longer, so the ball swings, which can help us, and it can be a negative as well. As I said we’ve got to adapt to the conditions,” he opined.
