Things have gone from bad to worse for former Australian vice-captain David Warner after he was banned for next twelve months by the Cricket Australia. It was an aftermath of the Ball-Tampering fiasco that saw the leadership group along with Cameron Bancroft on the receiving end to be banned after they were fined by ICC. Although, Smith and Bancroft confessed in the press conference after the incident to alter the condition of the ball it as a part of their pre-meditated plans.

Warner was the initiator

But as per the CA’s investigations, it was David Warner who thought of the idea and convinced the captain to make Bancroft as the scapegoat to accomplish the task. It was a deliberate effort to cheat that saw the incident being blown out of proportion. After the imposition of the ban, it was made much clear that Warner won’t be considered for any further leadership role in his career for the Australian team. However, there are chances of Smith to return back to the helm 12 months after serving his ban.

“Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft will not be considered for team leadership positions until a minimum of 12 months after the conclusion of their respective suspensions from international and domestic cricket,” said CA in a statement.

“Any consideration of future leadership would be conditional on acceptance by fans and the public, form and authority among the playing group. David Warner will not be considered for team leadership positions in the future,” it added. Warner has also been charged for instructing “a junior player to carry out a plan to take steps to attempt to artificially alter the condition of the ball using sandpaper”.

In response to the CA’s decision, BCCI also took a step to ban both the Australian players from playing in the upcoming Indian Premier League(IPL). This can be incurred as a huge loss to the respective franchises given David Warner was a key player for Sunrisers Hyderabad, not only as a leader but also as an influential figure in the team. Whereas, Steve Smith, who was a central figure around whom Rajasthan Royals centred their plans for the forthcoming season need to re-look into their strategy with the replaced skipper in Ajinkya Rahane.
