David Warner wins the Allan Border medal for the 2nd consecutive year

The Allan Border medal which is considered as the most prestigious individual award in Australian cricket was bagged by David Warner for the 2nd consecutive time. Warner has been a revelation for the Aussies at the top of the order and has scored runs against every opposition irrespective of formats and venues.
The Allan Border medal was first awarded in 2000 which is named after former Australian captain Allan Border. It recognises the most outstanding individual cricketer over the past season as voted by his colleagues, media and the umpires. Voters cast their votes on a 3-2-1 basis after each game and equal importance is given to both Tests and ODIs to give both limited overs and Test players equal chances of winning the prestigious award.
Warner was a prolific run scorer in the calendar year 2016 and despite his team not having the best year, Warner has been the standout performer and has scored heaps of runs especially in limited overs cricket. While Warner aggregated 916 runs in 12 Tests at an average of 45, he was way ahead in the ODI circuit where he has aggregated 1576 runs in 27 matches at a staggering average of 60.81. While he struck 3 centuries in Test, he backed it up with 8 ODI centuries in the 2016 calendar year. The swashbuckling opener also amassed 238 runs in 10 T20Is.
The Test Cricketer of the Year was bagged by none other than left-arm speedster Mitchell Starc who has been Australia’s lethal weapon in an otherwise disappointing 2016 season where they were defeated in 5 consecutive Tests. The left-arm quick bagged as many as 24 wickets in the 3 match Test series in Sri Lanka in July-August where the Aussies were whitewashed 3-0 by the islanders. He finished with a staggering average of 15 per wicket.

In the 3 match Test series against the mighty Proteas at home, Starc managed 14 wickets at an average of 30. He added 14 more to his kitty in the series against Pakistan which the Aussies won by a 3-0 margin. While David Warner also bagged the ODI Player of the Year award, Shane Watson got the T20 Player of the Year award.
