Dawid Malan displayed some sensational form during the Ashes series. The English batsman scored a hundred and three fifties throughout the nine innings he batted. He averaged 42.56 which was amazing considering the fact that England lost the series 4 nil.

Seems like the 30-year-old has been rewarded for his stupendous form against Australia. Middlesex have appointed him as the skipper for all the three formats. Malan has already been the T20 captain in the Natwest T20 Blast since 2016. Thus, this was an elevation for Malan from his previous position.

I believe Dawid Malan will become an excellent leader

Being the leading run-scorer for England in the Ashes, Malan has been praised for his performances under pressure. Malan has been part of Middlesex for almost 12 years and scoring 14000 runs across formats. While Malan will captain the side, Sam Robson will be his deputy.

Managing Director of Middlesex Cricket, Angus Fraser mentioned that they were done with signing new captains every year. Since Malan has been part of the club for a long time, he felt that it was the time he was given the captaincy to show his mettle around. He further instilled faith on Malan to deliver as a leader of the side.

“In recent years Middlesex have looked at overseas players and new signings to captain the club. But I now feel the time is right for players from within to take on major leadership roles. Along with the belief I have that he will become an excellent leader, Dawid stands out because he is somebody who we believe will do the job for several years.” He was quoted as saying by BBC.

It will be an interesting season for Malan ahead as the domestic tourney takes off. Also with the all-important home series against India less than six months away, it will be great preparation for him before a big task. There’s no doubt he would be absolutely confident from the Ashes.
