Former West Indies cricketer and the only captain to lead his side to two ICC T20 World Cup titles- in 2012 and 2016- Darren Sammy is one of the most popular cricketers in Pakistan, purely because of the role that he has played in somewhat reviving cricket back in Pakistan.

When no foreign cricketer was willing to travel to Pakistan for the Pakistan Super League, it was the former West Indies captain, who showed the way by not only playing in Pakistan but also spearheading the Peshawar Zalmi-unit to titular glory.

But Sammy’s form has long been a source of contention. The Zalmi skipper has managed just 44 runs in four completed fixtures this season. But, despite the low-returns, no one had expected that Sammy would be axed from the side.

But, that is exactly what has happened. In an unprecedented turn of events, Darren Sammy was dropped from Peshawar Zalmi’s fixture against Karachi Kings. Wahab Riaz was named as captain and the development hasn’t gone down well with Sammy it seems.

Sammy took to Twitter where he gave a piece of his mind when he wrote, “I’ve learned that you are important until you’ve completed your role. #dealingwithhumans”

Darren Sammy to be given honorary citizenship of Pakistan on March 23

This development comes after just a few days ago when it was announced that the former West Indies captain will be conferred with the honorary citizenship of Pakistan and the country’s highest civilian award- Nishan-e-Haider, on March 23, for his contribution towards restoring cricket back in the country.

Sammy was one of the first foreign cricketers to land in Pakistan for the 5th edition of the franchise-based league and was very excited at the prospect of playing the entire PSL, and has been seen enjoying local foods on the streets of Pakistan frequently.

“I’ve been enjoying the culture from day one. I’m enjoying the experiences. I want to see the fans happy, that’s why I play cricket,” the West Indian cricketer had said, adding that he found shalwar kameez really nice to wear and liked biryani,” Sammy said as quoted by Pak Passion

Sammy will become the third cricketer to receive citizenship of a country after Matthew Hayden and Herschelle Gibbs were conferred with the same back in 2007 by the St.Kitts government.
