Rishabh Pant has become the most polarizing figure in Indian cricket at the moment. The extremely talented lad from Haridwar has been earmarked as the next big thing in Indian cricket and a successor to MS Dhoni in all forms of the game. He has achieved success in Test format with amazing innings in Australia and England and even at home.

However, his form in the limited-overs has been poor to be polite. He was chosen to replace MS Dhoni when the time came because of his exploits in T20Is for Delhi and Delhi Capitals, where he slew the bowlers in a display of terrific hitting with big sixes and breath-taking innovation. However, that success has not come over when he has played for India despite being the first-choice wicketkeeper since World Cup 2019. The same thing was touched upon by former Australia cricketer Dean Jones, which didn’t go down too well with an Indian fan.

Though Pant has scored a century each against Australia and England in their own backyard and couple of scores of 92 against West Indies at home. However, his limited-overs form has been very bad and he was criticized for his poor form in recent series against West Indies. Rishabh Pant was flayed more for his poor selection and temperament rather than his low scores.

Dean Jones pointed out this in one of his tweets which led to an Indian fan having a war of words o Twitter. The former Australian batsman took to Twitter to state that Rishabh Pant doesn’t deserve any special treatment. “Why should Pant be any different to any other young player that has made mistakes? It’s big boys cricket. I know he is young.. but he needs to learn some home truths and improve his off- side play!” Prof Deano tweeted.

To this, an Indian fan replied, “So making 100 and taking catches is not a contribution according to you.if a young wicketkeeper-batsman scores hundreds in Australia and England early in his career and you are not impressed by him then he will never be able to satisfy you.bcz u r just trying to fing -ves in him”

Jones then admitted that Pant was special and then tweeted, “@RishabhPant17 has amazing talent.. his Test career is good.. but ODI: 0,20,32,4 and T20: 19, 4, 65no 4, 0, 1, 3 Pant needs to work on his off side play and blood rushes.. knowing who to hurt and knowing when to back off. Batting is a percentage game”

Rishabh Pant will get more chances to cement his place in the team as MS Dhoni has ruled himself out of international cricket till November. This means Pant, who played in the South Africa T20I series, will get a chance to make runs in upcoming Bangladesh T20I series as well. He has the chance to get his form back in the upcoming 3-Test series against Proteas which starts from October 2.
