As England all-rounder Ben Stokes packed his bag for a private trip to New Zealand with his family, the cricketing world was taken by a storm as many believed that he will be joining his team for the 2nd Ashes Test against Australia. Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris was one of the first to announce the possibility. He tweeted saying that he has got the news from his close sources that Stokes will be joining the Kiwi team for their Test series against West Indies.

Former Aussie Dean Jones was quick to troll Styris by reminding him the current form of Kane Williamson’s men. New Zealand recently lost the limited overs series to India and will lock-horns with Windies in a Test series. But not one to get bogged down, Styris came back with an epic troll where he posted the picture of the current test ranking, as Jones finds Australia just below New Zealand.

ECB clarifies Stokes’ scenario

ECB had earlier clarified that Stokes is not travelling to Australia, but going to New Zealand to spend time with his family. “The ECB is aware that Ben Stokes is making a private trip to New Zealand to spend time with his family. His travel arrangements have not been arranged by the ECB,” a statement read. “He is not on his way to the Ashes, England Lions or any other official training camps with the England set-up.” the statement read.

“NZC has yet to receive a formal request regarding Ben Stokes. However, we understand he and his representatives have been in discussions with Canterbury,” NZC public affairs manager Richard Boock said. “NZC has an open mind on this issue and will await further information before making a decision.”

Canterbury coach Gary Stead hasn’t been told about the possibility of having Stokes in the side but said that it would be ‘silly’ to decline such a scenario. “He’s a world-class all-rounder. I think we’d be stupid not to consider it (Stokes playing). We’ve got a very young team at the moment. If he wanted to have some sessions with us, I think we’d be silly not to,” Stead said.
