While Day 1 on the ongoing first Test between India and Sri Lanka belonged to Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja stole the show on the second day. The hard-hitting all-rounder was at his best as he played some remarkable shots all over the park. While the southpaw was watchful in the initial half of his innings, boundaries rained once he was set.

As a result, the 33-year-old advanced to his second Test century and he even looked all set for a maiden double ton. However, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma declared the innings when Jadeja was batting at 175 alongside number-10 batter Mohammed Shami. As a result, India ended their first innings at 574/8 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Now, this decision of Rohit Sharma left Twitter divided. While many found the call sensible, several reckoned Jadeja should have been given a chance to get a double ton. After all, he was scoring swiftly after crossing the 100-run mark. Notably, the Saurashtra cricketer would have become the first Indian and seventh all-rounder overall to score a double ton and take 200-plus wickets in Test.

However, the Indian team management had a different perspective and Jadeja had to walk back at 175 not out. Meanwhile, the southpaw’s score is also the highest by an Indian, batting at number seven or lower in Test matches. Needless to mention, spectators at the venue and Team India players welcomed the dasher with applauds as he walked back to the pavilion.

Meanwhile, this game holds great significance as it marks Virat Kohli’s 100th appearance in Test matches. This is also Rohit Sharma’s first leadership assignment in the longest format of the game. Considering the current proceedings of the game, India are well in command and Sri Lanka needs a miraculous show to make any sort of comeback. Meanwhile, besides Jadeja, Rishabh Pant scored a blazing 96 while Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin also amassed half-centuries.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterverse reacted to Ravindra Jadeja’s blitzes:
