Deep Dasgupta, the former Indian cricketer, has picked his all-time eleven in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran made the choices while speaking to CricTracker on Instagram Live on Thursday, May 7. To start with, he named David Warner and Chris Gayle. Among the foreign players, Warner is the all-time leading run-scorer and has also won the Orange Cap few times.
Gayle, on the other hand, is second on the list, but has the highest number of centuries (six), combining the foreigners and Indians. At number three, he picked Suresh Raina, who has made the most matches (193) in the history of the tournament. Dasgupta went for Virat Kohli, the all-time highest run-getter in the IPL, at four. Kohli has 5,412 runs with five tons to his name.
Rohit Sharma has four IPL titles to his name after he was elected the skipper of the Mumbai Indians midway through the 2013 season. Dasgupta didn’t forget to include the 33-year-old Nagpur-born. As the wicket-keeper, Dasgupta picked MS Dhoni, who has taken Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to the playoffs every other time since 2008. He has also played some jaw-dropping knocks for CSK.
Deep Dasgupta picks Yuzvendra Chahal over Amit Mishra
In the all-rounder’s slot, Dasgupta picked Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja. Both are currently a part of the Super Kings and have been major reasons behind CSK winning the IPL as many as three times. Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga, who both plays for the MI, were Dasgupta’s choice as specialist fast bowlers. Malinga is, de facto, the top wicket-taker in the IPL with 170 scalps.
Among the spinners, he went for Yuzvendra Chahal and surprisingly left out Amit Mishra, who has 157 wickets second only to Malinga. Dasgupta said that Chahal plays on batting paradises like the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as compared to Mishra, who plies his trade on spin-conducive tracks in Delhi.
“I keep Chahal ahead of Mishra, because of the ground he plays on,” he said. As the 12th,Dasgupta picked Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sunil Narine. Not only has Narine weaved magic with the ball, he has also developed his batting prowess in the last three seasons.
