Indian middle order batsman Suresh Raina once again failed to make the cut in India’s limited overs series against Sri Lanka, starting from August 20 in Dambulla. The left-handed batsman had a forgettable IPL too, a platform where he has dominated since its inception. Raina’s last 10 active match scores show up only one half-century, 84 against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21st. The southpaw failed to make the list for the Champions Trophy earlier this year and was seen working hard on his fitness in Amsterdam.

Last played in 2015

Raina has played 223 ODI matches for India so far, scoring 5568 runs at an average of 35.46, along with 36 fifties and five hundreds. Raina has been missing from the Indian ODI squad for a long time now. He was last seen in 2015 against South Africa during the 5-match ODI series. He was part of the T20I squad against England earlier this year but hasn’t got any opportunity post that.

Emotional Post on Instagram

The dejected 30-year posted an emotional quote on Instagram- a photo sharing social media platform. He is very active on social media and often posts videos of his work outs and outdoor visits. He recently posted a picture of his with the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni at NCA in Bangalore.

The players were at the NCA for the fitness test, and Dhoni, who usually stays away from social media, posted a picture with Raina and Kedar Jadhav about the fitness test that took place a few days back. He ran the 20-metre race in 2.91 seconds and completed the run-a-three race in 8.30 seconds. After the tests, Dhoni wrote “time for heavy lunch.”

Apart from Raina, veteran Yuvraj Singh too failed to make the cut. In-form Manish Pandey was rewarded with a place in the squad following his heroics in the tri-nation series in South Africa. With the competition boiling down the neck to neck contest, Raina, once a vital cog in the middle-order, will have to prove his case in the domestic set up.
