Dhaka Dynamites rope in Cameron Delport for BPL 2017 season

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team Dhaka Dynamites continue to strengthen their team for defending their title as Cameron Delport, the South African all-rounder became the latest overseas player to join their squad. Delport is currently on a Kolpak deal in England representing the Leicestershire side. Dhaka Dynamites won the previous edition of the BPL. The side has already roped in the services of Sunil Narine, Shane Watson, Kumar Sangakkara and Evin Lewis. The Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is also a part of the Dynamites team.

Delport has an experience of playing in various T20 leagues over the globe as he represented the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL), Lahore Qalanders in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Trinbago Knight Riders in Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The left-handed batsman, known for his attacking ability has featured in 123 Twenty20 matches and aggregated 2760 runs at an average of 25.32.

He has a strike-rate of 134.69 and scored 15 fifties and a century (103*). Delport has hit 115 sixes in his T20 career in the 116 innings; nearly one six per innings. The 28-year-old has an ability to chip in with his medium pace as he picked up 43 wickets including a 4-wicket haul in the 59 innings he was given the bowling responsibilities.

Delport is currently serving a lean patch in the ongoing NatWest T20 Blast edition as he managed to score only 185 runs in the 9 innings with the best score of 37. His availability for the 5th edition of the BPL is doubtful like the other international signings by the Dhaka franchise as the dates of South Africa’s new T20 league might coincide with that of BPL and Delport might be picking up his home league franchise over Dhaka Dynamites.

Confirming the signing, Dhaka Dynamites wrote on their Facebook page, “Left handed batting or Right arm medium bowling; Cameron Delport can do it all in style!”
