MS Dhoni is often revered as the most celebrated captain of the Indian cricket team. However, the recent times have not been fruitful for the man from Ranchi. This has only become more evident with #DhoniDropped being trending on the social media. It is a hashtag initiated by the critics of MS Dhoni on the social media. These critics are largely the ones who believe that Dhoni’s time at the helm of the Indian cricket has come to an end.

Dhoni is one of those cricketers in India who has a huge fan base but at the same time shares a great base of haters too. The reason for this could be many. Over the years, Dhoni has taken some very bold decisions including the ouster of some of the senior players from the side. Needless to say, the cricket did not like all the moves that he took.

Despite the fact that he is the only captain to have won all major ICC Trophies, Dhoni’s claim to fame has been jittered by hate campaigns such as these. Whether such disrespect or trend is worth a go for a player of his stature, is left for the people to decide. #DhoniDropped became an overnight trending story on the social media platform Twitter on Friday. This was largely as a result of some bold statements made by the former cricketers.

Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke had noted that MS Dhoni must perform if he wishes to stay in the mix of action. More recently, it was former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly who had spoken about the T20 skills of Dhoni. He had doubted the credibility of MS Dhoni in the shortest format of the game. While there were a few who lashed out at Ganguly for his comments over Dhoni, there were others who spoke in the favor of #DhoniDropped.

The hashtag is perhaps a move to indicate that Dhoni must be dropped. Questions over his selections, not only in the IPL this year but also in the Champions Trophy 2017, are being questioned by the fans. Here is how the trend on social media has been:
