After a complete decimation of the Sri Lankan side in the away tour, the Indian team have extended their dominion in the ongoing return series. The Men in Blue currently lead the ongoing three match Test series 1-0. After the culmination of the Sri Lanka series, India is scheduled to travel to South Africa where they will face a stern challenge. And, in a bid to prepare for the Protea tour, the Indian management has encouraged the use of green pitches in the ongoing bilateral series.

Earlier, prior to the the start of the second Test at Nagpur, Indian skipper Virat Kohli conceded that due to a cramped schedule, India were preparing for their upcoming tour by playing on green pitches against Sri Lanka. However, on the eve of India-Sri Lanka third Test at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, visiting captain Dinesh Chandimal took a dig at his counterpart Virat Kohli. The Sri Lankan chose to mock at Kohli’s claim of green pitches for the ongoing series.

Speaking to the reporters on the eve of their match, Chandimal revealed according to quotes on IBTimes, “If you look at the wicket (in New Delhi), I am not sure that they are preparing for South Africa,”

“The Kolkata wicket looked like a South African wicket but not these two,”

“They are thinking about the next series. We as a team are thinking about this series,”

Chandimal comes to the defence of former skipper Angelo Mathews

The Sri Lankan team, of late, has suffered poor fortunes. Sri Lanka’s batting has floundered so far this tour, with big names like Angelo Mathews failing to counter Indian bowlers. However, Chandimal sprung to the defence of his former skipper, saying the visitors’ batting woes were not down to one player.

The islanders suffered a 9-0 whitewash across all formats when India toured the island nation earlier this year. They have never won a Test on Indian soil, but Chandimal looks hopeful that the visitors will have a turnaround in their luck.
