Dipika Pallikal is a proud wife after heroics from husband Dinesh Karthik

In the finals of the Nidahas Trophy, the fans and the entire team was sunk in an ocean of pressure. Chasing 167 in the finals, the Indian team lost its way midway through the innings. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was back in the pavilion early in the innings. He was followed by Suresh Raina who walked back after scoring a duck.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul tried to stabilize the innings. They put all the efforts to accelerate the scoring rate and were successful up to a certain extent. But, the Bangladeshi bowlers pulled things back beautifully and created the pressure. KL Rahul succumbed and Rohit Sharma too fell at the wrong time.

While everyone expected Dinesh Karthik to come out to bat alongside Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar walked into the middle in a surprising move. Vijay is known for his ability to hit big but the pressure has got the better of him. He played a very slow knock pushing the team into further pressure. His batting partner, Manish Pandey got out off the last ball of the 18th over after Vijay played the first four balls for dots.

Cometh the occasion, cometh the man!

While many lost all hopes of winning the game, Dinesh Karthik took up the onus on himself. He assumed the role of a finisher as India chased down 34 runs from the last two overs. Dinesh Karthik scored 29 runs out of those from just 8 balls. He started his innings off with a six and scored 16 off his first three deliveries.

Karthik held on to his nerves when India required 12 from the last over. As Vijay Shankar got out off the fifth ball of the last over, India required five runs to win off the last ball. DK stayed calm and hit a beautiful six over the extra cover region to win the game for India, almost single-handedly.
