Ajinkya Rahane has an ODI average of 35.26, but he has never been a regular part of India’s 50-over team. In 56 matches, he has nine tons and 17 half-centuries, numbers which show his class and calibre. His last game for the Men in Blue came against South Africa back in February 2018. His name was being contemplated for the 2019 World Cup, but he couldn’t make the squad.

The Mumbai batter had the privilege to play in the 2015 edition of the mega event, but he missed out on the chance last time. After being left out, Rahane was filled with disappointment as he believed that playing the World Cup is a dream for any cricketer, so was his. However, he also understands the importance of moving ahead, parking aside all the agonies and griefs.

“Personally, everyone dreams to be part of the World Cup squad. Mine was also the same. You tend to get disappointed when you don’t make the World Cup team but it’s important to move on,” Rahane was quoted as saying to TVTN News Director Rahul Kanwal for India Today’s Jab We Met.

After the World Cup also, there is life, there are challenges

When Virat Kohli and Co were busy playing the World Cup, Ajinkya Rahane was plying his trade for Hampshire in the County Championship Division One in England. He scored a century against Nottinghamshire but strained apart from that. In seven games, he could only manage 307 runs at 23.61. The 31-year-old said that he learnt a lot for the stint and is looking on the positives.

“When I played 2 months in county cricket, I learnt a lot. Yes, it was a dream to be part of the World Cup team. But I am focussing on taking everything on a positive note and moving on. I feel I am starting my preparations for the next World Cup from now itself,” he stated.

India’s World Test Championship journey begins with the two-match Test series versus the Windies later this month. Rahane is also focussing on contributing in the championship. “After the World Cup also, there is life, there are challenges. There is World Test Championships. I am focused on contributing to the team and taking the team forward,” Rahane added.
