Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling prowess once again came on top as R Ashwin led Kings XI Punjab were bundled down by the bowlers. In the low scoring game, Hyderabad bowlers defended the target of 132 runs. Earlier they had restricted Mumbai Indians for 87 runs after putting on just 118 runs.

Punjab looked in a great touch chasing the target when KL Rahul and Chris Gayle started the run chase on a positive note when the two added 55 runs for the first wicket. However, after the wicket of Rahul, the team crumbled and eventually, Rashid Khan and Shakib al Hasan made sure that Kings XI fail to reach the target.

Hyderabad bowlers made the difference: Ashwin

Kings XI skipper Ravi Ashwin, while speaking after the match felt that collapses like these happen in the leagues like IPL. Ashwin credited the Sun Risers bowlers but suggested that the Punjab batters played some poor and unnecessarily shots. “These things (batting collapse) happen in this kind of a tournament and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling made the difference. We lost wickets throughout the middle (overs) and I thought we kept attacking a little too much and lost few wickets,” said Ashwin.

Ashwin hoped that the players whom they have supported for the roles will come off as the tournament goes ahead. “We do have finishers but they are not coming off. You won’t get all the puzzles solved at once. Hopefully, some of the people whom we have trusted will come good at the right time. That’s how you get going. They are quality players,” he said.

Notably, poor batting performance of the side was not the only misery of Kings XI. The fielding of Kings XI was another let down for the team that eventually fell 13-run short off the target. Ashwin felt that If the fielders had held the chances they got, they would’ve been chasing a smaller target.

Kings XI Punjab now has few days off to get rid of their troubles as they will now face Mumbai Indians in their new home in Indore on 4th May.
