New entrants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) reached the second spot in the points table after beating the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 1 (Sunday). LSG were the better team in comparison to their opponents as they won the match by six runs and registered their third consecutive victory.
After winning the toss, LSG opted to bat. Their openers came out all guns blazing as they posted 42 runs in just 4.2 overs before South African batter Quinton de Kock was scalped by pacer Shardul Thakur. However, skipper KL Rahul continued his excellent form with the bat and found a capable partner in the form of Deepak Hooda.
Both Rahul and Hooda took LSG score past the 130-run mark before Hooda became the second victim of Thakur. Captain Rahul then put his foot on the paddle and started scoring quick runs before Thakur got yet another wicket as he scalped the LSG opener for 77 runs. Australian batter Marcus Stoinis and left-handed batter Krunal Pandya took their team score past the 190-run mark in their 20 overs.
For DC, Thakur was the only successful bowler. Apart from him, spinner Axar Patel also bowled brilliantly, giving away just 25 runs in his four over quota. Barring these two bowlers, every bowler in the DC line-up gave away plenty of runs. As a result, DC were given the daunting task of chasing 196 runs.
Mohsin Khan shines for LSG
Chasing a big total, DC had the worst possible start as their destructive openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner were sent packing after the completion of the third over. However, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh (37 off 20 balls) and skipper Rishabh Pant (44 off 30 balls) steadied the Capital’s ship.
However, an excellent bowling change by Rahul meant that Marsh was sent back by off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham in the eighth opener. Talented batter Lalit Yadav was also cleaned up by leggie Ravi Bishnoi. Captain Pant was then joined in by the West Indian hard-hitter Rovman Powell.
The duo took DC’s score to the 120-run mark when Pant yet again failed to play a match-winning knock for his team as he was scalped at his score of 44 runs. Powell tried his level best after scoring 35 runs in just 21 balls, hitting three fours and two maximums, before he was scalped by the left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan.
Batter Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav tried their level best to win the match. However, it was too much to ask from both the batters in the end. For LSG, pacer Mohsin was the most impressive bowler giving away just 16 runs in his four overs, scalping four crucial wickets. Bishnoi, Gowtham, and Dushmanta Chameera also scalped one wicket each for their team.
Meanwhile, here are some Twitter reactions after DC vs LSG:
Mohsin khan’s wicket of Rishabh pant was a turning point of the game. Impressive young bowler.

Mohsin Khan is terrific. He should be front and center along with Umran Malik and a bit later on Kuldeep Sen, when INDIA sit to pick teams for international cricket post #TATAIPL2022

Ponting to Marsh who walked without nicking 😅 #LSGvDC #IPL2022 pic.twitter.com/74lWInBOVE

My understanding is that you can’t move the rope back and have the ball touch where the rope originally was. So that Krunal stop is clearly 4, no? #IPL2022

This is the Mitch Marsh that has played like this for Aus and Scorchers of late. #DC still can chase down this total with Marsh still in the middle #IPL2022 #DCvsLSG

Bit of musical chairs this season for LSG no.3 spot, but I think in @HoodaOnFire they've found a long term solution. Impressive how he's taken on a more responsible batting position without sacrificing his natural attacking game 👌🏽 #LSGvDC #IPL2022
