Diving deep into retirement video - MS Dhoni highlights the lows of his career too

“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.” This post surfaced from MS Dhoni’s official Instagram handle on Saturday evening and it stunned the entire country. After so many speculations on his retirement over the last 13 months, the veteran cricketer himself revealed the news in the best possible way.

He posted a video which depicted his whole journey in international cricket. It had all happy and sad moments of his career and we have delved down a bit more to single out the lowest points of his career. It started with his dreaded ODI debut against Bangladesh on December 23, 2004. He had bagged a golden duck and was dismissed run-out with Mohammad Kaif at the run-out.

While it was all smiles since then for the long-haired Mahi as he smashed the ball out of park so many times. His 148 against Pakistan and 183 against Sri Lanka highlighted his career for the most parts of three years. However, the 50-over World Cup in 2007 hit the cricketer really harad as India got knocked out of the mega event in the league stage itself.

Highlighting the moment in the video, it showed MS Dhoni walking away after bagging another golden duck in a must-win game against Sri Lanka. Muttiah Muralitharan had pinned him in front of the stumps. The 39-year-old didn’t miss out to put a picture of people burning his posters after the team knocked out of the World Cup.

And then came that heart-breaking moment

MS Dhoni turned heads however, in the next few months itself leading India to the famous T20 World Cup in its inaugural edition. It was also his debut tournament as the captain and he made sure the year evened out for the fans and the country. The next 10 years were relatively fine for the now former Indian cricketer according to the video posted and then came the day which every Indian fan wants to forget but cannot.

Dhoni, the finisher, was the last hope for India in the semi-final of the World Cup 2019 against New Zealand. And he look destined to take India to the final. But Martin Guptill’s exceptional fielding caught him short of the crease to break millions of hearts. The snapshots of his run-out and him walking away for one final time can be seen in the video.

MS Dhoni has also expressed his regret of not diving to save himself that day and it seems the moment is still hurting him.
