Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has been constantly bagging headlines ever since he announced his retirement from professional cricket. The 41-year-old has been pretty vocal about the injustice he faced from the selectors and the team management during the course of his career. Notably, Harbhajan was a part of India’s two memorable triumphs – the 2007 inaugural T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.

However, he rues not playing another World Cup alongside the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, and Gautam Gambhir. Speaking of his exclusion from the 2015 World Cup squad, Harbhajan said he and the other four aforementioned were fitter than many members of that MS Dhoni-led squad. In fact, the 41-year-old is still seeking answers from BCCI for the same.

At 31, I was fitter than many who actually were playing the game: Harbhajan Singh

“It would have been nice to play another world cup together with all my colleagues like Yuvraj and Virender Sehwag. When I took 400 Test wickets, I was only 31 and in 2011 also, I was 31. At 31, I was doing really well and I was fitter than many who actually were playing the game,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“After that, things did not go our way. I don’t know what happened and who was behind it but whatever happened it’s gone. There is no point talking about it. But yes would have been nice to play another world cup with Viru, Yuvi and maybe Gautam Gambhir as well. We guys were fit enough to be the part of the 2015 World Cup team which did not happen,” he added.

Saying that he’s grateful to have played for Team India, Harbhajan recalled the time when the entire cricket world was perplexed with his and other star players’ ouster. “I always want to be grateful for that and love all the opportunities we have got by the BCCI. I am going to be grateful for that and people have said a lot about that 2012, 2013, 2014 period why those guys did not play who won the world cup for India which I do not have the answer,” said Harbhajan.
